Tiden har inget namn
This odd, artistic melange of images is classified as a documentary, but given the nature of the film, it would better be described as an ecological meditation on the joys of rural life. In the story (richly embroidered with quotes from poems), an elderly rural couple goes about their actual daily chores, such as feeding their livestock, milking the cows, etc., to the accompaniment of a recitation of man-made environmental disasters on the radio. Occasionally, the old man says something misanthropic. Despite the rather shrill polemic intent of this “documentary,” it was reportedly filmed in an extremely appealing and poetic manner by director Stefan Jarl who has won awards outside his native Sweden for similar “documentaries,” all of them rarely seen outside of film festivals.
