Himatschal – Der Thron der Götter

Aimed at the schoolroom and lecture-hall circuit, Throne of the Gods is a filmed record of Swiss explorer Professor Dyhrenfurth’s expedition into the Himalaya mountains. Though undoubtedly filmed under extremely difficult conditions, the film is more impressive for its intentions than its execution. The best scenes are reserved for last, when Dyhrenfurth and his entourage plant the flags of Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Britain on a high Himalayan peak. This climax was altered a bit for U.S. consumption by including a shot of an American flag, obviously filmed in a far different location. Throne of the Gods was narrated by globetrotting journalist Lowell Thomas.
